Egyptian Holiday – Day 8

Well our very last day…& a very long one too :/ I was up at 6.45 as I couldn’t sleep so went to save our beds for our last morning around the pool.

It was a really relaxing morning, bit of sun, bit of swimming, awesome!

Then came the long drawn out process that was the journey home πŸ™

The coach came to pick us up half an hour late, then the organisation at Sharm El Sheik airport was diabolical. Our flight was at least an hour late, but we were never told. They then rushed us onto buses for us to sit on the tarmac, in the bus, for another 10 minutes. Then came the best bit, we we emptied onto the runway about 10 yards from the fuel pump but not allowed onto the plane, for another 10 minutes. Brilliant planning!

Now we are currently travelling back home to Hull at 2am (or 3am Egyptian time) feeling extremely crabby, but having had a very relaxing holiday.

The hotel was fab, apart from some little annoying things that leave a little bit of a bad taste, but on the whole it was excellent. Just a shame that it all has to end πŸ™

Egyptian Holiday – Day 7

Today was our last full day so we thought we’d spend it in our favourite poolside place! This means setting the alarm for 7.15am, yes you heard correctly, and even then it was only just early enough!

There’s something strange afoot in this hotel as there are too many people getting the same beds each day, it’s just not possible, but never mind, we were where we wanted to be.

A quick update on the inappropriate trunks guy, well they were a nice shade of Blue & Yellow today, a statement of support for Leeds Rhinos perhaps? Ha, I doubt it, yesterday he was wearing the pair looking like the USA flag!

This afternoon, my husband decided to go snorkelling so I joined him for a walk. I sat on the jetty in the breeze & the sun watching the fish from above. It was so peaceful.

Out for tea in our favourite poolside restaurant where you eat by candlelight, very fitting for our last night πŸ™‚ Happy days!

Egyptian Holiday – Day 6

We had to get up early today as we were off into the desert on a sand buggy! Not knowing what to expect but I was very excited about seeing outside of the hotel for a little while!

When we got to the sand buggies, my husband was beyond excited & I was a little apprehensive, I could just tell he was gonna go fast in them! But it was fantastic. They tied us up in headscarves to stop the dust & gave us helmets to wear, then we were off in convoy! Out into the desert, which was not at all like I imagined. I thought it would be sandy, but it was rubbly & quite dirty.

We drove to a Bedouin tent where we were given Bedouin tea & shown genuine Bedouin women’s crafts (I’d be surprised if they’d ever seen a Bedouin woman if I’m honest). Then we drove back taking about 2 hours in total, seeing camels, that I so hoped I would see πŸ™‚

This afternoon has been an afternoon of relaxation by the pool, amazing πŸ˜€

Egyptian Holiday – Day 5

I have to say that one downside of this holiday has got to be the saving of sunbeds, it happens everywhere, I know. But 8am, my husband gets up to save a bed & he is the last one there! It becomes silly when people are setting alarms on holiday to save beds & then not arrive on them for hours later, sometimes not until the afternoon!

So today we were in a totally different place, still nice but more hassle from the animation team to play water polo or do the water gym. There are, however, lots of people with macaronis which Scott & Becky from the Scott Mills show would appreciate (If you haven’t listened to his podcasts about their time on holiday then please do!)

After some persuasion I took part in an ickle bit of snorkelling today. I panicked as usual but I enjoyed it all the same πŸ™‚ Didn’t see a huge amount of fish but the coral was fantastic, some bright green, like a highlighter pen. Just on the walk back across the jetty though, we saw the evil Picasso Triggerfish waiting to bite my toe πŸ™‚

For a change we ate at the Egyptian restaurant tonight, which was different! You got your own little barbecue if you ordered a kebab which was quite cute. To be fair though, it’s not really my thing, just meat, I’d rather eat vegetarian!

On the way back to the room, we played pool & yes, I beat my husband which is so rare, even with a gammy arm πŸ˜€ It was amazing πŸ˜€ Heehee!

Egyptian Holiday – Day 4

Today is a simple pool day, nothing else planned at all! We’re even gonna eat in the main buffet restaurant, because we can’t be bothered to book anything else! I know, completely, lazy πŸ™‚

Well today I finished my 1st book, ‘My Take’ by Gary Barlow, a very interesting read after the first couple of chapters, awesome reading about the life & times of Take That, but I’d love to read the next chapter after the initial comeback!

You can always tell when I’m relaxed as I pick up a book & can’t put it down.

Spent most of the rest of the day reading about every day people in Take a Break & keeping my mind active with some quizzes, always fun. πŸ˜€

Tonight’s entertainment is a ‘Fire Show’, exciting! The last time we saw one of these was on our honeymoon, it seriously has a lot to live up to! Before the show started we watched a little of the champions league with a couple we met called Scott & Laura who are on their honeymoon, weirdly the same day as our anniversary πŸ™‚

This turned into sampling a little apple flavoured hubble bubble pipe which was ok, but having never smoked before it wasn’t really my cup of tea.

The ‘Fire Show’ was a little poor, not much fire if I’m honest but hey ho, it was worth a visit.

Egyptian Holiday – Day 3

Day 3 meant a trip to the beach, which is about a 5 minute walk away and still part of the hotel complex. As you can imagine the sand was boiling so a quick run to the parasols were needed. The beach felt more relaxed, more spacious but I could see straight away that the sea was not for me.

When sunbathing I love the ability to cool off quickly with a dip, but the sea was very shallow and corally with the only way of getting to deeper waters was off a pontoon that the snorkellers go off.

We had lunch there but went back to the pool in the afternoon! It was much better. It was nice to have a much better view, NOT! There is a man in very inappropriate budgie smugglers who is always at the front of the bar! Not a sight I want to see…but for some reason I just can’t stop looking, just wrong!

At night we went to a seafood dinner which was sold to us as a night of nice food and good entertainment. Well the food was nice, but the entertainment left a little to be desired! Although I have to say the spinny man was fantastic!

All in all another relaxing day!

Egyptian Holiday – Day 2

Today was our first full day in Egypt & by god it was hot! At 9am when we went down for breakfast it was stifling, perfect for a chilled out day by the pool πŸ™‚ Now I know that it’s not very nice, me, babbling on about how relaxing my holiday is, etc, etc but I’m just gonna talk about the funny things that happened…maybe πŸ™‚

My husband decided after an hour that it was time for snorkelling, he can’t sit still for very long, so I left him to it. With underwater camera at hand, I knew I’d get to see the fish too. With my arm still being sore, there was no real chance of me going, not when all I do is panic at the best of times.

After sitting for a while, a dip in the cool pool was in order, so I went in for a nice swim, only for my husband, to swim underwater put his head between my legs & stand up, causing me to go arm first into the water…genius! Painful, but also very funny!

The hotel couldn’t be treating us any better, a man with water spray going round the beds spraying you to cool you down & clean your sunglasses. A man with cold towels, a man with fruit kebabs & waiter service to your sunbed! Bliss.

The only problem (well not really a problem but a communication issue) coming from the latter. I finally decided to succumb to an alcoholic drink, and ask for a vodka & pineapple with ice, he passes me what I thought was just that. I then ask for a vodka & coke, to which he disappears to get some vodka, realising I only have pineapple juice, on his return I ask for vodka in mine as well so he gave my husband a straw! I decided to just give up…sulking slightly πŸ™‚

Egyptian Holiday – Day 1

Today is Sunday 11th September 2011, the beginning of our 1st ever Egyptian adventure. We’re only going for a week so exploring will be at a minimum but that’s the whole idea. Add that to the fact that I nearly broke my arm last week so relaxing & resting is just what the doctor ordered! Literally!

We booked into Bewleys Hotel at Manchester Airport overnight so that we wouldn’t have to do the early morning get up and they couldn’t be more accommodating. Bar meal & drinks in the evening when we’d deposited the car in the correct car park & a bus waiting for us as soon as we stepped our of the door at 7am, perfect! However, I will reserve judgment until I’ve got my car back πŸ™‚

Once at Terminal 1, it was breakfast & Starbucks time with an hour or so for shopping in Fat Face again, my favourite shop!! Too many pennies spent, but never mind, I’m on my holidays!

Our Monarch flight was on time & brilliant, the leg room was plenty & we had our favourite types of seat towards the back of the plane which made for a very pleasant flight!

As soon as we stepped off the plane we knew how hot it was going to be, it was half 4 in the afternoon & it must have been 30 degrees, scary, but just what we’d come for.

We arrived at our home for the next 7 days, the 5 star Baron Palms Hotel. After a welcome drink & being given a Hawaiian necklace, we were shown to our room! A large room, with air conditioning πŸ™‚ & a lovely card & bunch of flowers for our 5th Wedding Anniversary, a lovely touch.

We went for an explore, to see a number of restaurant to choose from, 2 large pools & a beach with a reef not far away. After a meal in the buffet restaurant, a few drinks in the poolside bar and watching a chinese circus act, which was amazing, we decided it was about time to hit the sack to get ready for our first full day!
