Scotland Road Trip – Day 8

After a very nice ‘local’ breakfast…eggs from their own chickens and sausages from their own pigs (I’m glad to say no lamb from Larry!!!)…

…we were ready to face the day…which was a day around Handa Island, a nature reserve.  We travelled to a small village called Tarbet where we caught the Handa Island Ferry, which was a small boat only big enough for 10 people.

The short trip ended up on a very idyllic beach where the sun came out & turned the sands white & the sea the brightest turquoise, you could have been anywhere.   Even the temperature rose to suit the weather.  We were given a short talk explaining what we could see on our 4 mile walk and then we were left to our own devices.

We were treated to all sorts of sea birds, great skuas, arctic skuas, guillemots, kittiwakes and my favourite, ickle puffins!  Out to sea we could see seals too which were amazing…even if I did have to argue with the rest of the guys that it was a seal & not a stone! 😀

All in all, it was well worth the visit and a much needed stretch of the legs & a blow away the cobwebs kind of a day 🙂

For tea we went to the local hotel, called the Kylesku Hotel, which had a restaurant with a menu that sounded delicious…I had Hand Dived Scallops and Langoustines both of which were absolutely delicious and probably the best meal I’ve had so far.  Yum Yum!!
